WHAT MOVING IN WIMBLEDON CAN INVOLVE

Different Parts of Wimbledon, Different Moving Challenges

Wimbledon is SW19 with a piece of SW20 attached, and it holds a wider spread of property types than almost any comparable postcode in south London.

The Village end is period territory. Georgian and Victorian houses on the Ridgway, Marryat Road and Church Road, tree-lined streets, low kerbs and roads that will not take a long wheelbase van without blocking somebody. We often shuttle from a staging point instead, which adds an hour and saves a damage claim. That is the shape of most full house removals up there.

South Wimbledon and Raynes Park are a different job. Tight terraces around Haydons Road with bay windows that decide whether a sofa turns, then nineteen thirties semis on Grand Drive with driveways and straight stairs. In the town centre it is concierge desks and goods lifts instead, which is where London flat removals become a booking exercise more than a lifting one.

Local Coverage

Areas We Cover In Wimbledon

Six distinct parts of Wimbledon, six entirely different reasons removals slow down. Here is exactly what we anticipate throughout.

Wimbledon Village

Wimbledon Village

Period houses on the Ridgway and Marryat Road. Narrow streets, low kerbs, and the occasional grand piano that needs piano moves.

Wimbledon Town Centre

Wimbledon Town Centre

Purpose-built flats and mansion blocks near the station, plus the offices behind them that keep our London commercial moves crew busy.

South Wimbledon

South Wimbledon

Terraces around Haydons Road and Merton High Street. Narrow halls, tight bay windows, and controlled parking on very nearly every road.

Raynes Park Station

Raynes Park Station

The SW20 side, quieter and greener, with thirties semis and off-street parking, but one-way stretches that change how the van approaches.

Wimbledon Park Side

Wimbledon Park Side

Home Park Road, Arthur Road and Revelstoke Road. Family terraces, and the streets most affected by Championships fortnight each summer.

Wimbledon Chase

Wimbledon Chase

The southern edge into Merton Park and Colliers Wood. Good access generally, though tram lines and one-way systems need routing first.

THE PROPERTY MIX HERE

The Property Types We Move Around Wimbledon

Four property types account for practically all of Wimbledon, and each possesses a distinctly different way of disappointing you.

Period Houses Around The Village

Period Houses Around The Village

Original floorboards, tight returns on the stairs and doorways never sized for a modern sofa. Several Village streets will not accommodate a rigid vehicle without obstructing a neighbour entirely.

Runners go down, banisters get sleeved, and wherever the street itself creates the problem we shuttle from a staging point.

Period Conversions and Mansion Blocks

Victorian Terraces With Bay Fronts

The friction throughout South Wimbledon is the bay window and the hallway behind it. A sofa that entered through a doorway a decade ago will not necessarily come back out again the same way.

We measure that turn during the survey and decide whether it dismantles or travels sideways, bringing professional packing too.

Nineteen Thirties Semis And Drives

Nineteen Thirties Semis And Drives

Raynes Park, Wimbledon Chase and the West Wimbledon streets remain the most straightforward work we do locally: driveways or off-street loading, straight stairs, doors wide enough for a wardrobe.

Standard vehicle, standard timings. The one real variable is whether the one-way systems nearby add a loop to the approach and a few minutes.

Mansion Blocks With Goods Lifts

Mansion Blocks With Goods Lifts

Around the Broadway and Wimbledon Hill Road the lift and the loading bay are booked rather than assumed, and certain blocks restrict removals to weekdays or particular midday hours.

We confirm everything with building management during the survey rather than the morning, bringing blankets and full lobby protection.

PARKING AND BAYS

Merton Suspensions, Championships And Loading Bays

Merton asks for more notice than the boroughs next door, and for one fortnight a year the SW19 roads around the Village stop behaving in a normal way.

Most of Wimbledon town, the Village and South Wimbledon sit inside Merton’s controlled parking zones, and a removal van cannot use a resident bay without a suspension. We tell you at survey which one your street needs and how to apply.

What We Offer

Removal Services Available In Wimbledon

House Removals

Whole-house moves out of the terraces between the commons, wrapped, loaded and reassembled the same day.

Flat Removals

Conversion flats, mansion blocks and riverside towers, planned around the staircase or the booked lift.

Office Removals

Desks, screens and server equipment shifted out of hours, so Nine Elms businesses reopen punctually.

Man and Van

One driver, one porter and a smaller vehicle for a single room, a studio or a short local shift.

Packing Services

Full or partial packing using our own materials, finished the day before so the morning stays clear.

Storage

Somewhere secure for everything when a Battersea completion date slides, which happens often around here.

Commercial Removals

Shops, studios and clinics along Lavender Hill and the Nine Elms parade, moved between trading days.

Furniture Removals

Wardrobes, sofas and dining tables that need dismantling before they will clear a Victorian landing.

Single Item Removals

One piece, one vehicle, one trip. Common throughout the towers, where a single sofa is the entire job.

Why Elephant Removals

A Removals Team Serving Wimbledon

Close Enough To Start Early

We work out of south west London, near enough that the crew is on your street at the start of the day rather than at the end of a long cross-town run.

Working Here Since 2003

We have been running moves across south west London since 2003, and the people behind it are largely the same. On a Village street that matters more than a brand.

The Same Crew Throughout

The team that loads in the morning is the team that unloads at the other end. Nobody gets handed over to a different crew at a depot partway through the day.

Cover On Every Job

Every move is insured across the load, the transit and the unload. We can send the certificate over beforehand if your building management asks for it.

We just moved. Umar, Asad and Tan made everything look easy. They were fast and efficient, wearing a big smile throughout. They made a stressful situation a little less so. If you need to move, your first call should be to Elephant Removals! They are very good value.

Common Questions

Wimbledon Removals FAQs

It depends on the property, the access and how far it is going. A one-bed off the Broadway and a five-bed on the Ridgway are different jobs entirely. The survey comes first, so the quote reflects what is really involved. Get your Wimbledon quote and the detail follows.

All of SW19 and the SW20 side. Wimbledon Village, the town centre and the Broadway, South Wimbledon, Raynes Park, the Wimbledon Park and Southfields side, and Wimbledon Chase running down into Merton Park and Colliers Wood.

Ten full working days, which is longer than the boroughs either side and the reason we ask for your date early. A bay counts as five to six metres, so we confirm the number with you first, and then tell you whether your street needs one.

Yes, and we do it every year. Late June into early July brings event traffic and closures across Church Road, Wimbledon Park Road and the roads north of the Village. If your date is flexible, either side is easier. If not, we start early and route around the worst of it.

Yes. Uprights, grands, safes and larger antiques go on a separate plan with the right kit and a crew that has done it before. Specialist piano movers are worth the extra survey time on a Village staircase, and we would always rather look first.

Regularly. Wimbledon is one of the areas people leave when they want more space, so moves beyond London are a steady part of what we do. We plan the route, the vehicle and the access at the far end, which is often the harder half of the job.

Yes, seven days a week. Saturdays go first, especially at the end of the month, so tell us your preferred date early. Sunday is usually quieter on the roads around the Broadway, and during Championships fortnight it is noticeably the better of the two.

For the move itself, mostly practical ones. Original floors, plaster and staircases are what gets damaged, and some buildings restrict what can be fixed to a wall or a frame. We survey those first, protect the whole route, and dismantle rather than force anything through.
