Croydon Removals Company
Removals In Croydon For Homes, Flats And Offices
Croydon covers a lot of ground, and a move here can mean two very different days. One job is a tenth floor flat off Wellesley Road with a single goods lift booked in slots by the concierge. The next is a 1930s semi on a Sanderstead hill with a gravel drive and no turning room. Elephant Removals has moved people across South London since 2003. We handle house removals in Croydon, flat moves, office relocations and single item jobs from Norbury down to Coulsdon, with the parking sorted before the van sets off.
Moving In Croydon
Moving Around Tram Tracks, Tower Blocks And Hill Roads
The tram catches people out. Tracks run through the carriageway on George Street, Crown Hill and Church Street, and the lengths carrying them are no waiting and no loading at any time. You cannot pull up outside a town centre address and drop the tailgate. The van goes on a side street or a booked bay, and the crew carries the rest.
Then the ground climbs. Upper Norwood and Crystal Palace sit on the ridge, so Beulah Hill and Church Road are steep and heavily cambered, and a tail lift wants level ground. South of the flyover it opens out into Purley and Sanderstead, where driveways are longer but roads narrow and trees hang low over the kerb. Same borough, three different problems.
Areas We Cover
From Norbury SW16 Down To Coulsdon CR5
London Road in Thornton Heath and Limpsfield Road in Sanderstead are four miles apart and nothing alike on moving day. One is a bus corridor with permit bays and no front gardens. The other is wide, quiet and full of sloping driveways.
Croydon Town Centre & Waddon
Wellesley Road, George Street and the College Road towers. Most blocks here run one goods lift shared between residents, deliveries and contractors, with the concierge handing out slots. We confirm the slot, the bay and the lift depth before booking the date.
Addiscombe & Shirley
Victorian and Edwardian terraces with permit bays down both sides and very little slack. The Dalmally Road traffic scheme came out in March 2026, so those roads take through traffic again. Shirley is easier, with driveways.
Thornton Heath & Norbury
Blocks running from two to six storeys, townhouses, and undercroft parking on the newer phases. Estate roads are wide, which helps, but lift access and fob entry are controlled by the management company. We confirm both before the crew arrives rather than on the morning.
South Norwood & Upper Norwood
The climb between Portland Road and Beulah Hill is genuinely steep, so we park nose out and work the tail lift off the flattest section available. Selhurst Park sits in the middle of this patch, so we check the fixture list before agreeing a Saturday.
South Croydon & Sanderstead
Brighton Road is a red route, so nothing stops at the kerb along it. Set back from it, removals in South Croydon and the Bynes Road permit zone are calmer, though driveways slope and gravel churns under a loaded van. We bring boards when we know in advance.
Purley, Kenley & Coulsdon
Both sit inside permit zones, with long shopping parades where the kerb fills by eight. Terraces are narrow at the front door, so a three seater often comes out through the bay window rather than fighting the hall.
PROPERTY AND ACCESS
High-Rise Flats And Victorian Terraces Need Different Plans
Four property types cover most of what we load here, and each brings a different access problem.
New-build tower flats
The blocks on College Road and around East Croydon run a single goods lift on a booking sheet, usually in two hour slots, with a rear service entrance and a bay shared with deliveries. Agents often want lift protection and paperwork on file first.
We handle that side: building manager contacted, slot taken, documents sent ahead, our own blankets and floor protection brought. On a two hour slot the load order is planned so the lift never stands empty.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Managing agents at the newer Uxbridge blocks want the lift booked, sometimes want it lined with protection, and will often ask for paperwork before they release it. Turn up without that and the move stalls in reception.
We contact the building manager during the quote stage, book the slot, and bring our own floor and lift protection. If the goods lift is out of service on the day, we already know the stair route and the crew is sized for it.
Hillside semis and houses with driveways
On a sloping gravel drive a tail lift is unstable and a loaded trolley runs away from you. Wet weather makes both worse, and a churned up drive is a conversation nobody wants with the buyer.
We park on the flattest ground available, lay boards across the gravel and shuttle in shorter runs. On tight lanes a smaller van feeds the big one parked further out.
Offices and units above shops
The hallway is the problem, not the stairs. Quarter turn staircases, a step up from the pavement and a doorway under a metre wide stop wardrobes, corner sofas and king mattresses that went in fifteen years ago.
We measure at survey stage instead of finding out on the morning. Doors come off, beds and wardrobes are dismantled and rebuilt, and where the hall will not take it, the bay window is the way out.
Parking And Permits
Croydon Council Needs 10 Working Days For A Bay Suspension
Croydon asks for a minimum of 10 working days before the date for a parking bay suspension, and the same for a dispensation on yellow lines. The current rules and charges sit on the council’s own page, How to get parking restrictions suspended. Worth knowing early: there is no online form. You email the suspension team, they call back for payment, and nothing is held until the charge is paid.
What catches people out:
- Around 20 permit zones cover the borough, from the Centre zone to Bynes Road, Norbury, Purley, Sanderstead, South Norwood and Thornton Heath. Each has its own hours, and signs use zone codes rather than names.
- A suspension covers a marked bay, a dispensation covers yellow lines. Apply for the wrong one and you have no protection on the day.
- Central zone bays cost more per day than bays elsewhere, resident and commercial rates differ, and bank holidays inside the notice period push the deadline back.
- Every request is subject to availability. Leave it late and it gets refused, not fined.
Send us the address and the date. We will check the zone, tell you which application applies, and either deal with it or send you the wording.

Covered In Transit
Goods in transit and public liability cover in place, with documents sent ahead to agents who will not release a goods lift without them.
Full Pack Or Crew And Van Only
Take the whole service or the parts you need. One item up to a five bedroom house, weekday or Saturday, packed by us or by you.

Croydon Removals FAQs
All of them. CR0 for the town centre, Waddon, Addiscombe and Shirley, CR2 for South Croydon, Sanderstead and Selsdon, CR7 for Thornton Heath, CR8 for Purley and Kenley, CR5 for Coulsdon, plus SE25, SE19 and Croydon’s side of SW16.
Croydon Council asks for at least 10 working days before the move date. There is no online form, so it goes by email with a call back for payment. Tell us early and we will either apply for you or send you the wording.
Yes. Those buildings almost always run a single goods lift booked in slots through the concierge. We contact the building manager, take a slot, send our documents over and plan the load so nothing overruns.
We do. Most town centre office moves run in the evening or across a weekend, because agents restrict lift and loading bay access during trading hours. We label by desk and floor so your team finds their kit on Monday.
Sometimes not, and it is better to know beforehand. We measure doorways, stair turns and the item itself at survey stage. If the hall will not take it, doors come off or the bay window is used, which is routine on the terraces in CR7 and SE25.
Yes. Croydon sits inside the ULEZ zone like the rest of Greater London and our vehicles meet the standard, so no emissions charge is added to your quote.
