Battersea Removals, FROM Terraces To Towers

BATTERSEA'S PROPERTY MIX

Why Moving in Battersea Can Be Two Different Jobs

Battersea sits inside Wandsworth, covering SW11 and a slice of SW8. Few parts of London ask two such different things of a single removals crew.

The grid between Wandsworth Common and Clapham Common is dense Victorian terrace, and a lot of it has been split into two or three flats behind one front door. The staircase turns twice before the first landing. Whether a sofa goes up whole is a measuring question, so we check that turn and the doorframes before we price a full house removal.

North of Battersea Park Road it is a different trade entirely. Circus West Village, the Switch House and Electric Boulevard run booked goods lift windows and separate service entrances, so the constraint is the calendar rather than the stairs. We make those calls once your date is fixed, because losing a lift slot costs you the afternoon. Flat moves across London rarely hang on paperwork this much.

AREAS COVERED

Areas We Cover In Battersea

Six neighbourhoods, six completely different loading problems. Here is what we establish before the van leaves the yard.

Between The Commons

Family terraces with side-return extensions that pinch the hall, which is where large furniture needs planning rather than force.

Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station

Circus West, the Switch House and Electric Boulevard each run their own lift booking and service entrance rules. We confirm yours first.

Nine Elms Riverside

Nine Elms Riverside

Riverside towers with concierge desks and timed bays, plus the offices behind them that keep our commercial removals in London crew busy.

Clapham Junction

Clapham Junction

St John’s Hill and Falcon Road carry traffic constantly, so loading generally happens from a quieter residential street immediately behind.

Battersea Park RoadBattersea Park Road

Battersea Park Road

Interwar mansion blocks facing the park. Generous rooms inside, narrow communal stairs, and porters who want notice well before the day.

Shaftesbury Park Estate

Shaftesbury Park Estate

A conservation area of late Victorian cottages on a tight grid. Attractive streets, remarkably little room for a long wheelbase vehicle.

HOUSING STOCK AND ACCESS

Access And Property Considerations

Four property types cover most of Battersea, and each fails in its own particular fashion whenever the day gets planned wrongly.

Victorian and Edwardian Terraces

Victorian Terraces And Conversions

Most terraces off Lavender Hill and Battersea Rise are now two or three flats behind a single communal staircase. That first turn is the tightest point in the building, and it effectively decides the day.

We measure it during the survey, establish what comes apart, and bring packing and materials for anything requiring boxing beforehand.

Riverside Towers And New Builds

Riverside Towers And New Builds

Power Station and Nine Elms apartments are straightforward to carry and complicated to schedule. Goods lifts operate in booked windows, service entrances sit apart, and several buildings permit weekday moves only.

We confirm your particular window in writing beforehand, then organise the running order around whatever the building actually allows.

Nineteen Thirties Mansion Blocks

Nineteen Thirties Mansion Blocks

The red brick blocks along Battersea Park Road and Prince of Wales Drive have generous ceilings and correspondingly heavy furniture. Older lifts rarely accommodate a wardrobe, so the communal staircase does the work.

Banisters, carpet and lift interiors get covered before anything moves. Otherwise you receive a letter from the managing agent.

Estate Blocks And Walkway Access

Estate Blocks And Walkway Access

Winstanley, Doddington and Patmore contain blocks where the lift is small, occasionally unavailable, and considerably further from legal parking than anybody expects. The route inside is manageable once understood.

We walk it beforehand and establish with the estate office exactly where the vehicle stands, so nobody improvises afterwards.

PERMITS AND BAYS

Wandsworth Permits And Loading Access In Batterse

A removal van cannot use a resident permit, so on almost every Battersea street the van needs a suspended bay or it needs to be somewhere else.

Wandsworth runs the parking side for all of Battersea, and the notice period is what catches people out. We tell you at survey whether your street needs a suspension, a waiver or nothing at all, and how to apply for it.

What We Offer

Removal Services Available In Battersea

House Removals

Whole-house moves out of the terraces between the commons, wrapped, loaded and reassembled the same day.

Flat Removals

Conversion flats, mansion blocks and riverside towers, planned around the staircase or the booked lift.

Office Removals

Desks, screens and server equipment shifted out of hours, so Nine Elms businesses reopen punctually.

Man and Van

One driver, one porter and a smaller vehicle for a single room, a studio or a short local shift.

Packing Services

Full or partial packing using our own materials, finished the day before so the morning stays clear.

Storage

Somewhere secure for everything when a Battersea completion date slides, which happens often around here.

Commercial Removals

Shops, studios and clinics along Lavender Hill and the Nine Elms parade, moved between trading days.

Furniture Removals

Wardrobes, sofas and dining tables that need dismantling before they will clear a Victorian landing.

Single Item Removals

One piece, one vehicle, one trip. Common throughout the towers, where a single sofa is the entire job.

Why Choose Elephant Removals

A Removals Team Serving Battersea

Based In South West London

Our yard sits in south west London, minutes from Battersea rather than an hour across town. The crew arrives fresh and the vehicle is not already half loaded.

Moving Battersea Since 2003

Trading here since 2003 means whoever turns up has almost certainly done your street before. Who we are has stayed small and local throughout all of it.

One Point Of Contact

One person takes the survey, files the paperwork and answers the telephone on the day itself. Nobody needs briefing twice at eight on the morning of the move.

Insured On Every Move

Every job is insured across the load, the transit and the unload. The certificate is available on request, and we would rather you asked than assumed.

We just moved. Umar, Asad and Tan made everything look easy. They were fast and efficient, wearing a big smile throughout. They made a stressful situation a little less so. If you need to move, your first call should be to Elephant Removals! They are very good value.

Common Questions

Battersea Removals FAQs

It depends on the property, the access at both ends and how much is going. A conversion flat off Battersea Rise and a four-bedroom house near the park are different jobs. We quote after the survey, so the price reflects the actual work. Tell us about the move and a figure follows.

All of it. Between the Commons, the Power Station estate, Nine Elms and the riverside, Clapham Junction, Battersea Park Road and Prince of Wales Drive, and the Shaftesbury Park Estate. We also cross into SW8 and take moves along the Wandsworth Road border.
On most Battersea streets, yes. Wandsworth needs seven clear working days, the day you apply does not count, and anything filed after 3pm rolls to the next working day. We tell you at survey whether your street needs one and how to apply, so it is worth confirming your date early.
It happens often around the Power Station and Nine Elms, where handover dates move by weeks rather than days. Tell us as soon as you know and we will look at moving the booking. If the gap is real, storage between moves bridges it and we deliver when the keys land.
We do, once your date is set. Most newer buildings want the slot booked through concierge or building management, and several restrict moves to weekdays. Overrun the window and you can lose the lift for the rest of the shift, so we get the booking confirmed in writing.
Sometimes, and we would rather find that out at survey than at nine on a Saturday morning. We measure the first turn, the landing and the doorframes, then decide what comes apart, what goes through a window and what travels separately from the rest of the load.
Winstanley, Doddington and Patmore each have their own route in, and the lift is usually the limiting factor rather than the doors. We walk the route beforehand, agree with the estate office where the van can sit, and bring trolleys sized for the lift rather than the load.
A studio or a single room usually suits a man and van, with one driver and one porter. A whole flat or house needs the full crew, the wrapping and the reassembly at the far end. Tell us the room count and we will say which one fits.
