SERVING MERTON AND SW19
Merton Removals And Bay Suspensions
Merton removals usually start with the bay, not the van. The council wants ten full working days’ notice for a suspension, and Elephant Removals covers house, flat and office moves across SW19, SW20, CR4 and SM4.
HOW MOVES RUN HERE
What Home Removals In Merton Run Into
Merton covers four postcode areas and three very different kinds of street, and the move that works in Raynes Park will not work in Mitcham.
Merton runs from Wimbledon Park down to Mitcham Junction, and it is the only London borough with tube, tram and National Rail inside its boundary. That spread shows on moving day. A full house removal off Kingston Road loads from a bay on a quiet side street. The same job on High Path or Eastfields loads through a communal door on a booked lift slot.
Business moves here are not all Wimbledon town centre. Willow Lane in Mitcham carries over 150 firms, and Deer Park Road and Morden’s London Road run serviced office floors that let by the desk. We survey London office moves out of hours where the estate allows it, because a Friday afternoon load on Willow Lane meets the shift traffic head on.
WHERE WE WORK
From Cricket Green To West Barnes
Six pockets of the borough, each with its own street pattern, its own parking zone and its own version of a difficult front door.
Mitcham And Cricket Green
Lanes around Cricket Green run narrow and the CR4 side streets fill early, so a Luton parks nose out and shuttles the last stretch.
Morden And Lower Morden
Thirties semis with driveways, which sounds easy until the drive turns out to be one car deep and the van ends up on Central Road.
Colliers Wood And Merton Abbey
Zones CW to CW5 hold until half six most days, so a mid afternoon load here needs the suspension confirmed rather than hoped for.
South Wimbledon And High Path
High Path is going up in phases, so a man and van run to a rehousing slot happens here about as often as a full chain move does.
Raynes Park And West Barnes
Edwardian and thirties runs with deep rear gardens, plus the West Barnes Lane crossing, which stalls a Luton at the wrong hour.
Merton Park And Kingston Road
Wide verges off Kingston Road give a decent kerb, though the tram crossing at Morden Road sets the approach for a flat move.
THE BUILDINGS HERE
Two Front Doors And Shallow Drives
Four kinds of building make up most of the borough, and each one fails in a different place if nobody measures it first.
Victorian Terraces Split Into Flats
Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon carry late Victorian terraces, many with two front doors because the house was split into flats decades ago. The hall narrows at the return and the stair turns tight above it.
We measure both at survey, so you know before the day whether the sofa comes apart or goes through the bay window.
Nineteen Thirties Semis In Morden
Morden, Lower Morden and south Mitcham are mostly thirties semis on solid concrete floors, usually with a driveway and a side return worth about half a van.
The drive is normally one car deep, so we check at survey whether the van sits on it or takes the road, and whether that road is inside a zone at all.
Estate Blocks Under Regeneration Works
Eastfields in Mitcham, Ravensbury in Morden and High Path in South Wimbledon are being rebuilt in phases, and households move on dates set by the phasing rather than by a chain.
Those dates slip. We keep the crew allocation open where we can and confirm the lift and the communal door with the block manager the week before.
New Build Blocks With Loading Bays
The newer blocks around Colliers Wood High Street, Merantun Way and the Plough Lane end run booked loading bays and goods lift slots, in windows set by the building manager rather than by you.
We ask for the slot when you book us and pack to fit it, because full and partial packing the day before is what makes a short window work.
BAY AND NOTICE
Ten Working Days For A Suspended Bay
Merton wants ten full working days before a suspension starts, so the bay is the first thing we sort out and the last thing to leave late.
You can only suspend a bay inside a controlled parking zone, and Merton’s zones run long. Colliers Wood holds from 8.30am to 6.30pm, one of its zones to 9pm. Outside a zone there is nothing to suspend, and we plan the load differently.
- Applications go in at least ten full working days before the suspension starts, so a completion date confirmed on the Friday is already tight.
- One bay is about five to six metres, and the council asks you to confirm the number with your removals company, which is a call we make.
- Warning signs go up around a week ahead, and domestic removal suspensions get cones as well as signs.
- Merton does not tow. If a car is sitting in your bay on the day, you report it that day, because nothing gets enforced after the fact.
We work from the current Merton Council parking bay suspension rules rather than the older council pages still quoting four and seven days.

HOW WE RUN JOBS
How We Plan A Merton Removal
We Survey Before We Quote
The price comes after someone has seen the hall, the stair and the street. Nothing gets estimated off a room count and a postcode, because that is how day of move surprises start.
We Deal With The Council
We tell you at survey whether your street needs a suspension, how many bays the load takes and how to apply, so the ten working day clock starts on time rather than late.
We Book Lifts And Doors
On estate blocks and new builds we confirm the goods lift slot and the communal door with the building manager before the van leaves, not when it arrives at the gate.
Crews Who Know The Borough
Elephant Removals has been working South West London since 2003, and the crews know which Merton streets take a Luton and which need a shuttle van run in from the main road.

Common Questions
Merton Removals FAQs
Volume, access and time. A two bed conversion off Haydons Road with a tight stair and no bay costs more to load than a thirties semi in Lower Morden with a drive. We quote after the survey, so the figure reflects the job. Tell us about the move.
All of it. Mitcham and Cricket Green, Morden and Lower Morden, Colliers Wood and Merton Abbey, South Wimbledon and High Path, Raynes Park and West Barnes, and Merton Park along Kingston Road. Motspur Park and Wimbledon Park sit inside the same run.
Merton asks for at least ten full working days before the suspension starts, which is longer than Wandsworth next door. We tell you at survey whether the street needs one and how many bays the load takes. Signs go up about a week ahead and domestic removals get cones.
Yes. Serviced floors on Deer Park Road, the Morden London Road offices and units on the Willow Lane estate in Mitcham. Willow Lane runs its own shift traffic, so we load early or after six. Commercial moves get a separate survey for lift and yard access.
It affects the northern edge. During the Championships Merton closes part of Church Road to traffic between 8.30am and 11.30pm, and the event parking zone changes what a resident permit covers. Moves still run in that fortnight, but we set the load window early in the morning.
Common here, particularly on the estates being rebuilt in phases, where the programme sets the date rather than a chain. Tell us as soon as you know and we will look at moving the booking. The earlier that call comes, the better the chance of keeping the same crew.
We do, once you give us the block manager’s contact. Newer blocks around Colliers Wood and Plough Lane run booked loading bays and fixed lift windows, and they fill up weeks out. If the slot is short we pack the day before, so the window is used only for carrying.
Yes. New build handovers slip and rehousing phases rarely line up with a tenancy end, so storage between moves is booked more often here than people expect. We load, store and redeliver, and you are not paying a second crew to handle it twice.
