City Of Westminster
Removals In Westminster, SW1 To NW8
Westminster moves are rarely decided by distance. They are decided by whether the van can legally stand near the door, whether the porter knows you are coming, and whether the lift has been booked. Elephant Removals has worked across London since 2003, and we plan every job in the City of Westminster around the council’s kerb rules and your building’s access rules before we put a crew and a vehicle against it. Houses, flats, mansion blocks and small offices, from Millbank and Pimlico up to Maida Vale and St John’s Wood.
What To Expect
What Moving In The Borough Involves
The City of Westminster runs from the river at Millbank up to Queen’s Park, and it is not one place. A removal company in Westminster is really being asked to solve two things: where the van can legally stand, and how your belongings get from the van to the door. Everything after that is packing and labour.
We quote removals in Westminster on what the access actually allows, not on a rate card for a three bedroom flat, and that work is done before we confirm the date.
Where We Work
Areas We Cover In Westminster
Six pockets of Westminster, six different problems at the kerb. What works on Lupus Street will not work on Baker Street.
Victoria And Vincent Square
Mansion flats sit a street away from office blocks here. The Victoria one way system means a van that misses its window goes all the way round, so we book the bay rather than gamble on it.
Pimlico And Lupus Street
Stucco terraces cut into flats, most of them four floors with no lift. The heavy pieces come down in stages and the crew is larger than the van size suggests.
Belgravia And The SW1 Squares
Wide streets, narrow permissions. The squares are permit controlled and porters manage many of the entrances, so the suspension and the building booking go in together.
Marylebone And Baker Street
Loading is the problem rather than the building. Baker Street and Marylebone Road carry traffic all day, so we load off the side streets and run the extra distance with more hands.
Paddington And Bayswater
Sussex Gardens and Gloucester Terrace are long stucco runs with basement flats and railings. The newer blocks by the Basin have proper loading bays, which have to be booked in advance.
Maida Vale And St John's Wood
The easiest kerbs in the borough, and outside the Congestion Charge zone. Wider streets, some off street parking, and the one part of Westminster where a Luton can usually stand outside the door.
Getting In And Out
Stucco Terraces To Mansion Block Lifts
Westminster has 56 conservation areas and more listed buildings than any other authority in the country. These four cover most of what we load across SW1, W1, W2 and NW8 in a given month.
Stucco Terraces In Pimlico And Belgravia
Four and five floor conversions with a tight first turn and a half landing that stops a three seat sofa a couple of feet short of the door. Most of these streets sit in a conservation area, so taking out a sash to hoist is a consent job rather than a decision made on the morning.
We measure the turns at survey and tell you which pieces come apart. If something will not make the stairs, you hear it before the date rather than on it.
Mansion Blocks In Marylebone And Maida Vale
Goods lifts are booked by the hour and the service entrance is usually round the back, well away from the front door. Some managing agents want to see a removal company’s cover documents before they will release the lift at all.
We get the lift window, the entrance and the agent’s requirements confirmed in writing first. Communal floors and lift walls are covered before the first box moves.
New Build Flats Around Paddington Basin
Loading bays exist here, which is the good news, and they come booked through building management with a time limit attached. Run over the slot and the next delivery is waiting behind you.
We size the crew to finish inside the booking. Where the slot is too short for the load, we split it across two runs and say so in the quote.
Houses In St John's Wood And Queen's Park
Larger houses, some with driveways and gravel, and garden flats reached down a side return under a metre wide. Distance from the van to the door costs more time here than stairs do.
We walk the route at survey and price the extra carry in, so the crew on the day matches the distance rather than the room count.
Parking And Permits
Parking Suspensions And Loading In Westminster
Westminster City Council asks for 10 working days’ notice to suspend a parking bay. Applications submitted within 10 calendar days of the start date attract a £20 short notice administration fee, and that is only if the suspension is granted at all. For end of month completions this notice period is the single most common reason a move day here falls apart.
Worth knowing before you book anything:
- A suspended bay is measured as 5 metres unless the bays are individually marked out. A Luton van needs more than one.
- Try not to build the plan around a disabled, doctor, diplomatic, car club or electric vehicle charging bay. If one of those has to go, an alternative space must also be suspended and paid for on a like for like basis.
- Under the council's kerbside enforcement code, domestic and office removal vehicles may load and unload on a yellow line for as long as the work genuinely takes. Where a loading ban is in force on that street, you need special permission from Parking Services first.
- If the job finishes early, put the return to service sticker across the front of the suspension sign so the bay goes back into use for residents.
We can apply for the suspension as part of the job, or walk you through the council’s online booking system if you would rather hold it in your own name.

Why Elephant Removals
Why Choose Elephant Removals For Your Move Here
We Survey Before We Quote
The price comes after someone has seen the hall width, the lift and the street. If access changes on the day we tell you before the invoice, not after it.
We Read The Zone First
We tell you at survey whether your street needs a suspension, which zone it falls in, what the notice window is, what it will be charged on and exactly how to apply.
Moving Since 2003
More than twenty years of moving London households and offices. That experience shows in how we read a staircase, a service lift and a permit bay before the date rather than on the morning.
Agreed In Writing First
Moves are insured, and what we move, what we pack and what happens if your date shifts is written down and agreed with you before the crew starts loading anything.

Common Questions
Westminster Removals FAQs
Yes, we can apply on your behalf as part of the job. Westminster needs 10 working days’ notice, and anything submitted within 10 calendar days of the date carries a £20 short notice fee from the council. Tell us your date as early as you can and we will get the application in.
That is a large share of the work here. Send us the block name, the floor and any move times the managing agent has set, and we will build the day around the lift booking and the service entrance rather than the front hall.
The whole borough. SW1 and W1 through to W2, W9, NW8 and the Queen’s Park end. Removals in Westminster make up a steady share of our central London work, and we cover the addresses at either end of the move whether or not they sit inside the borough.
Yes. Single item collections and part moves are quoted the same way as a full job, with the same protection and the same access checks. Furniture disposal and clearance is a different service, so tell us which one you need.
Both. Packing can be full or limited to kitchens and fragile items, and storage covers the gap when completion dates move, which in a chain around here they often do.
Mostly in timing and permissions. Office moves usually run outside trading hours, need the goods lift and loading bay booked through building management, and benefit from a floor plan with labelled desk positions before the first crate leaves.
